Today I’m clearing up some bad meditation advice that seems to be everywhere. Here’s what I mean:
,
If you tried meditation and felt like you were failing at it…
…it wasn't you. It was the instructions.
Think back to the first thing you were probably told.
"Clear your mind."
Probably the worst meditation advice ever. (Especially because there’s a much better and less confusing way.)
So you sat down and tried to do the impossible. And within about four seconds your mind was full again. The more you tried to push the thoughts out, the more they showed up. And the more stressed out you started to feel.
“This meditation thing must not be for me,” you probably thought.
That one bad direction is why so many people give up on meditation. Which is a shame, because the benefits are exactly what so many of us need right now.
Clearer thinking. Less stress. Feeling comfortable in your own skin. Better sleep. Being happier and more fulfilled. All of these and more are linked to a consistent meditation practice in study after study.
So what if you could get there without all the struggle?
