Gang, I wrote enough newsletters about Covid to generate an entire book -- Diary of a Psychosis: How Public Health Disgraced Itself During COVID Mania -- so I hope you can endure a second post about the New York crazies.
Someone on X posted the standard analysis of rent control -- an analysis that is entirely correct:
Yes, your rent is frozen. So is the landlord's budget to fix your heat, your leaks, and your broken freezer. But don't worry, when nothing works, at least the number on your lease stays the same. You can admire it while you eat out.
And the rent won't rise, true. Neither will any new buildings, because no one builds apartments he's forbidden to price. So enjoy the same aging unit for the next thirty years, paying yesterday's rent for tomorrow's ruins.
Freezing a price doesn't freeze reality. It freezes the supply, halts the repairs, and ends the building, while the line of people waiting for an apartment grows longer every year.
But feel the warmth of collectivism: everyone equal, shivering together in identical crumbling units, sharing the broken elevator and the dead freezer as one community.
The number stays the same. That was the promise, and that is all you'll get.
One of the most obnoxious "progressive" accounts on that platform, an account run by a person who is resolutely determined not to let knowledge defile his civilization-destroying opinions, responded to this with:
"Landlords are required by law to provide those things."
To which I replied:
Your entire worldview is based on the military.
If we bark orders at everybody, everything will work out great.
"Don't you know we have a law that requires that thing? Therefore, that thing will happen!"
This is truly the progressive worldview: if we want something, we simply demand it. There is no such thing as tradeoffs. If we shout something through a bullhorn it will happen exactly the way we want, and with no collateral damage.
It is because of this juvenile worldview that they are so contemptuous of people who disagree with them. It is well established from surveys that people on the right can explain progressive opinions with vastly more accuracy than progressives can explain the views of people to their right. They don't know a thing, and they have no interest in knowing a thing.
What they "know" is this: they are righteous people who want inexpensive housing for people, which they can get simply by shouting through a bullhorn, and their opponents perversely refuse to shout through that bullhorn. If making demands is all that's necessary to bring about a social result they favor, the only reason someone might not join them in it must be pure wickedness.
They are incapable of conceiving of any other reason.
Very hard to debate with such people.
If this wing of the Democrats should grow (not like any other wing is much to write home about, to say the least), nothing is going to be safe.
The SOBs will come at you with "wealth taxes," they'll tax unrealized gains (true insanity), and if you think they won't raid that retirement fund, think again. You're an oppressor, and they'll laugh as they expropriate you.
Oh, I'll just leave the U.S., you think. Well, start preparing for that, because by the time you'll need to do it, they'll erect an exit tax so high you may as well stay.
Every day this week I'm hosting a call about the Low Stress Options program, which flat-out works, guys. I have an enormous community of folks who will tell you.
May as well accumulate as much as you can before or in case the nightmare scenario occurs.
Custodial accounts for children are highly scrutinized, which is why it tells you something that I can use this strategy even in the account I have for little Henry, seen here at a formal dinner we attended last week:
The testimonials coming from fellow readers seem too good to be true. I get it.
So I'm holding a live call every weekday this week at 5pm Eastern with program creator Troy Broussard, leading up to America's 250th -- for here is your own form of independence. Bring your skepticism and your questions, but for heaven's sake be there.
Skeptics are more than welcome. You should be skeptical. But you should also be there.
