,
Imagine waking up tomorrow morning and everyone you depend upon is gone. Including your family, your friends. Everyone.
Thousands of years ago, that wasn't simply heartbreaking.
It could be a matter of survival.
Because human beings survived in tribes. We protected one another. We found food together. Even raised children together. Hence, our brains evolved to care very deeply about connection and belonging.
Which helps explain why abandonment can hurt so much.
And here's the thing...
You don't have to have been physically abandoned to carry an abandonment wound.
Maybe someone you needed was physically present but emotionally unavailable. Or somebody close to you betrayed you. Perhaps somebody died. And you learned at a very young age that depending on other people wasn't safe.
So today you:
Hold on too tightly.
People-please.
Fear rejection.
Or do the exact opposite...
You leave first.
You keep people at a safe distance.
You tell yourself you don't need anyone.
Because if nobody gets close enough... nobody can leave.
