You may have seen a graphic Donald Trump shared on Truth Social, and which has since made the rounds on other platforms, in which the U.S. presidents are ranked in different categories of greatness.
Now people are saying it was all meant as a joke, because the whole point of it is that Trump himself is listed as the "greatest," with Joe Biden, Barack Obama, and Jimmy Carter listed under "failures."
But the list is so atrocious and embarrassing that even if you were joking you would never release it -- you wouldn't want anyone even mistakenly thinking it represented your true opinions.
We then learned it's actually a ranking from 1948 to which Trump added himself as well as Biden, Carter, and Obama (this explains why Reagan is missing, the most commonly noted omission).
But imagine wanting the country to see a ranking that at least appears to carry your imprimatur, and the "Great" presidents on it include Franklin Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson. Martin van Buren sits among the "Average" -- again, exactly the way mainstream historians have it -- when in fact Jeff Hummel made an entirely convincing argument in John Denson's edited volume Reassessing the Presidency that van Buren may in fact have been the best president of all.
Then under "Below Average," we find (among others) the excellent presidents John Tyler and Calvin Coolidge, and (again repeating the standard line) under "failures" we see Warren Harding, who surely does not deserve that designation and about whom favorable revisionism has been sorely needed. It's precisely to avoid this inane drivel that so many families homeschool their kids.
