Day Two of the Phoenician League Investment Summit is in the books... and it was quite a show today. All four of today’s sessions focused on the macro picture, but each from a very different perspective.
That’s one thing I loved about the financial newsletter world back in the day – it provided a forum for people to consider different perspectives... which stood in sharp contrast to the white-washed corporate media.
Tom Dyson kicked us off today with something that I didn’t know was coming until right before the event – a tour of nature and the financial system through the eyes of an engineer.
Tom started with life itself, 4.5 billion years of trial and error, and built all the way up to paper money and gold. His core idea, that "feedback beats planning," is a profound insight... and everything stems from that.

In our second session, Nick Giambruno took on the tug-of-war that's hiding in plain sight. AI is making things cheaper to produce, while a debt-based money system needs inflation to survive. In Nick’s view, the balancing act between inflation and deflation will be critical in the years ahead.
From there, Nick laid out a simple framework of savings, investments and speculations, and he spoke to why most people get the order wrong. His warning is worth repeating: "Just having an income in a depreciating currency is not enough."

In session three, E.B. Tucker gave us perhaps the most unexpected session of the week. His topic was "The Race You Already Won," and it had almost nothing to do with gold prices... and everything to do with the mindset that decides whether you ever feel like you have enough.
He walked us through the four-second breathing trick he uses before he looks at a single screen, and he told the story of a friend with a $200 million fortune who kept working himself to death until he reached $370 million. But E.B. raised the question – what can you do with $370 million that you couldn't do with $200 million?
So E.B.’s session provided us with more of a Zen perspective on the investing world, and I appreciate that. If you would like to keep up with his work and his travels going forward, you can do so at http://ebtucker.com.
Then Dan Denning closed the day with a view on the nature of intelligence, with a focus on the rise of artificial intelligence. Dan walked through the claim that intelligence has replaced energy, labor and raw materials as the most important input to the economy, and then he took the other side of the argument.
Dan went on to discuss his views on how AI may impact the economy, and he shared with us the industries that he thinks will be most impacted. If you would like to get Dan’s big-picture thoughts like this every week, you can do so at: https://www.bonnerprivateresearch.com/eb4e93b4
Thanks again to everyone who joined us today, and for the speakers who were gracious enough to take the time to come talk with us. Tomorrow, we’ll shift gears and focus on building cash flow and passive income.
Day Three starts at 1:00 PM Eastern with Shane Thompson on investment real estate. And I promise, the system Shane lays out makes this asset class accessible to anybody.
Then Jerry Jones will walk us through the world of mortgage note investing and what it looks like to be the bank. And for our final session tomorrow, Lance Goldberg and Mike Fruzzetti of the Partners Fund will take us into the world of some fascinating alternative investments – each geared for building cash flow.
We’ll send you Day Three’s access link in the morning. See you tomorrow!
-Joe Withrow
